It is a tremendously exciting time in our history. We are in the midst of a paradigm shift, with more and more of us awakening to a new era of peace, justice, and environmental restoration. All over the world, people are energized by the challenges we face. They’re not waiting for “the authorities” to tell them what to do, or for someone in charge to act first. They’re simply digging in and creating something new—and finding a deep sense of connection and fulfillment in the process.
I write about grassroots groups on the leading edge of the community resilience movement. These are folks pulling together at the local level to work on the most pressing problems of our day. Economic distress. Climate change. Food insecurity. Not to mention fuel that is increasingly expensive, dirty, and dangerous to extract.
My life’s work is to take part in—and lyrically document—this messy, hopeful, resourceful, creative, connective movement.
It is a privilege to be alive in this time when we can choose to take part in the self-healing of our world.
– Joanna Macy
My goal is to galvanize action by chronicling this movement. It has never been more urgent to amplify these visionary voices, because change is needed on a grand scale. These are stories that often do not make the news, humble tales of folks extending a hand to each other, digging a shovel in the earth, turning from consumption to connection. We are out here remaking the world, bit by bit. Who knows where that critical tipping point might be?
I hope you will feel free to enter into the conversation here. Maybe you have an inspiring story to tell about your community or group’s innovations. If so, contact me. I might feature you in an upcoming blog post or article.
